Portables includes all types of fire extinguishers and fire blankets.

WHEN

(frequency of testing)

  • Bi-Annually and Annually

WHAT

(is required to be tested or verified)

Extinguisher is

  • Within date

  • Correctly mounted

  • Has not been discharged

  • Does not show signs of damage or deterioration

  • Powder based units are free flowing

Blankets

  • Mounted correctly

  • Tags are visible and accessible

  • Blanket is undamaged and correctly folded in the container

Signage

  • Correct location signage and type ID signage is in place

  • Signage is in the correct location

HOW

(is required to be tested or verified)

Visual inspection for

  • Condition or damage

  • Signage

  • Mounting

  • Pressure within extinguisher (where gauge fitted)

  • Stamping of last pressure test date

Contents

  • DCP – powder moves freely within the vessel

  • Foam/Water/Wet Chem – Liquid moves freely within the vessel

  • CO2 – Extinguisher weight consistent with full charge

  • Applicable Standards and codes: BCA Section E1.6 and AS2444
