Detection (Panel)

Fire detection panels vary greatly in each installation and some of the below will vary accordingly.

WHEN

(frequency of testing)

  • Monthly and Bi-Annually
  • Annually
  • 10 Yearly

WHAT

(is required to be tested or verified)

  • Signage and zone block diagrams
  • Alarm function, external alarms and strobe
  • Panel function tests
  • Backup Batteries
  • Mimic and remote panels
  • All monthly checks AND
  • Test operation of manual call points
  • Test all panel controls, switches and keypads
  • Test 100% of panel detectors and verify within service life
  • Test OWS
  • Test all external controls and manual overrides (eg Mech Air)
  • All detectors to be replaced

HOW

(What method is used)

  • Visual checks of all signage zone block plan
  • Check installation date and physical condition of batteries (Batteries must be replaced every 2 years)
  • Operate a panel test, simulate an alarm, fault condition and test ability to isolate zones/ detectors.
  • Using appropriate test device, activate detectors with either smoke or heat to ensure alarm is triggered
  • Test function of manual call points and all functions/keys of the panel, Ensure spare break glass and/or tool for MCP on site
  • Check manufacture date of each detector located in the building is not more than 10 years priwor to present date
  • Test and measure sound pressures for the OWS meets minimum
  • In conjunction with appropriate specialists, test the external controls and manual overrides for connected systems
  • Replace all detection heads connected to the panel
