Fire Dampers

Fire dampers are designed to close in the event of a fire to isolate individual fire containers in the building. This can be by way of a physical operation however is most often by way of single use intumescent material.

WHEN

  • Annual

WHAT

(is required to be tested or verified)

  • Register of all fire dampers located in the building is often held separately to provide a baseline for testing
  • 20% of all dampers to be tested
  • Damper is installed correctly
  • Damper is free of obstruction

HOW

(is required to be tested or verified)

  • A specialised partner is engaged to ensure that
    • The correct type and configuration of damper
      is installed
    • The damper is installed correctly
    • The damper is free of obstruction or excessive residue that could inhibit the correct operation of the damper
  • The damper register (also sometimes referred to as a damper matrix) is used to ensure all dampers are inspected at least once in a 5 year cycle
