Mechanical Air Systems

Mechanical Air systems relate to the fan based ventilation and extraction of service areas, pressurisation and forced air smoke controls throughout the building.

WHEN

WHAT

  • Test fire trip with monthly fire indicator panel tests
  • Check operation and serviceability of all fans
  • Conduct full test of mechanical air systems including all monthly and quarterly tests and:

HOW

(What method is used)

  • Ensure correct shutdown and activation of appropriate mechanical air services from the controls at the fire panel when panel is in alarm. This includes;
    • Fresh air supply and exhaust fans
    • Stairwell pressurisation fans
    • Smoke spill / Lobby relief fans
  • A specialised partner is engaged to
  • Run all fans and check that operation is correct
  • Visually inspect for any physical damage or obstruction to operation
  • Ensure all carpark controls (eg CO) operate correctly
  • Check manual operation of smoke dampers
  • Ensure physical access to all fans present to permit servicing
  • A specialised partner is engaged to ensure and test
  • Detection triggered operation of smoke dampers
  • Using test smoke, trigger duct probes to ensure correct fan operation and functional integration with the Fire Indicator Panel
